Poor Spence

Yesterday morning was a typical Sunday morning in our home. I have really enjoyed having church at 11am because it is a lot less stressful getting everyone ready. I had just gotten Spencer undressed for his bath when Mark commented that Spencer's ear looked funny. When I looked down I saw that Spencer has a lot of goop draining from his ear. I panicked. We called our parents and both sets told us that his eardrum had ruptured. I hurried him to the urgent care where they looked in his ears and told us he had an ear infections that had caused fluid to build up. Finally a rupture in the membrane caused all the fluid to drain. They sent us home with two prescriptions. I have a few comments on this experience:
1. Those urgent care center must make a fortune. They charged an exorbitant amount for a quick look in the ears and writing two prescriptions.
2. Why do these things always happen in the middle of the night or on the weekend?
3. I am not a bad parent. Spencer never let on once that he had an ear infection. He has never been anything but happy and easy-going.

Brad. You're the Best!

So, it's rodeo time again. I was really looking forward to this time of year after all the fun we had last year. My sister-in-law hooked us up with amazing tickets to see Brad Paisley.

He sang 15 songs! It is no wonder he has won so many awards for entertainer of the year. He really worked the crowd. He and his body guards spent a lot of time on the floor giving away guitar picks and high fives. The guy has a different guitar for every song and really knows how to play it. You could tell he really loves kids.

The Hair

Avery and Sarah are completely different when it comes to hair. Avery has a thick, full head of hair. Sarah has fine, thin hair. Well, today was the day for the annual haircuts. Here are the "before" shots...
Sarah had too much of a mullett for me.

Avery's hair was way too long and full of tangles.

Spencer suffers from the newborn bald spot.

Here are the after shots...

Sarah with her cute new bob.

Avery has nice, short, manageable hair.

Spencer still suffers from the newborn baldness. I think he's still too little for a haircut.

Oh my!

I just don't know what to say. I watched the entire show and cried at the end. Afterwards, I watched the "After the rose" bit. I like Jason a lot but I think he's a BIG JERK! I am not opposed to him changing his mind--hey, it happens! But I am opposed to him doing it all on national television. That is the epitome of "jerkiness".

Ike

Today was the first day I have been to Galveston since the hurricane. I have been very curious about what it looks like now. Mark had an install and we got to go to work with him. The city is slowly recovering. I was really surprised to see random abandoned boats out by ditches and out in fields. A lot of shops and restaurants were still closed. I am sure a lot of homeowners and store owners just had to walk away and leave it all behind. It made me sad.

A Little Gem

I have found something I love. At the request of my sister, I am sharing it with all of you.
These are the new socks from Children's Place for infants.

They are fabulous because they stay up and never fall off.

The key is in the elastic cuff.

They are up to size 12 month and I am planning on getting as much use as possible out of them.

Duh!

So Avery's class has been reading stories at school and drawing pictures about what they read. They get to bring the books home and show their pictures for discussion. Anyway, I immediately fell in love with this picture Avery drew because it is the first time she's drawn our whole family together. So here's the conversation...
I ask, "Avery, Who are these people?"
Avery says, "Dad, me, Spencer, you and Sarah."
I say, "Everyone is smiling except you and daddy. Why?"
Avery says, "Cause our heads are stuck together."
DUH!
